For many families, a centre-based ABA program is not an option, for many different reasons. BCTS will continue to support families who choose to hire their own Instructor Therapist to run their child's program in their home or other location. If a family chooses to hire their own Instructor, BCTS will provide names of currently trained private Instructors who may have hours available to provide service to the family. If no trained therapist is available, BCTS will provide the family with resumes of interested individuals. BCTS will guide parents through the interviewing process such that the family can feel confident with the individual they hire. During the initial functional skills assessment, the pros and cons of a home-based versus centre-based therapy will be further explored. The choice is entirely that of the family and will be wholly supported by BCTS. Once the functional skills assessment has been completed the family will be assisted, to the best of our ability, in finding an appropriate Instructor. Once the family has decided upon the Instructor, Instructor training will need to be discussed and agreed upon. If the family is fortunate enough to have hired a trained and experienced Instructor, no training will be required beyond the initial start-up session. However, if the Instructor is new to ABA he/she will need training and the total hours of training will depend on the experience he/she brings to the program. BCTS will not provide an ABA program to be conducted by any person who has not been adequately trained in its implementation. This would not only be unethical from a professional standpoint but could actually be harmful to the child.

every family's situation. BCTS will do everything it can to customize your child's program such that it meets the family's needs as a whole.
